Founded in 1982

Regular Member of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), Member of the Dutch Stichting Nederlands Onderwijs in het Buitenland (NOB), Member of the Portuguese Associação de Estabelecimentos de Ensino Particular e Cooperative (AEEP), Recognised by the British Service Children's Education Authority (SCEA) and by the United States Department of Defense (DOD) and State Department.

The International Preparatory School (IPS) is a private coeducational day school offering English Primary education to children from 3 to 11 years of age. Truly international it has over 35 nationalities of children with under 20% from its host country, Portugal. It is located to the north east of Cascais within easy reach of Cascais, Estoril, the A5 and IC19 motorways (the major arteries to Lisbon). IPS relocated in 2010 into purpose built eco-premises. The facilities are modern, colourful, and spacious offering plenty of room for the present enrolment of 250 children.

It has 2 classes per year group with an average of 17 in each class (15 is the maximum for Nursery). Teaching Assistants in all preschool and infant classes as well as specialist teachers for Portuguese, French, Dutch, English as an Additional Language (EAL), Physical education (PE), Learning Support / Special Needs, Art and Music help to maintain an extremely high staff/pupil ratio.
