A reception to celebrate the BCC’s 75th Anniversary was held at the British Ambassador, Kirsty Hayes residence on Friday 16th September. 200 volunteers, representing twenty five of the BCC member organisations, were invited to thank them for the contribution they make to the community.
The British Community Council, Lisbon, (BCC) was formed in 1941, during World War II, when it was recognized that the war efforts in the community needed to be coordinated, and has been working to support the British Community in Portugal since then, it currently brings together over 30 English speaking organisations, synchronising their activities on the BCC Events Calendar, thus enabling English speaking people to find out, at one click, what is going on the community in the Greater Lisbon Area. BCC member organisations cater to a wide range of interests and age groups. They offer opportunities to make new friends, discover new activities, explore Portugal and its culture as well as raising funds for both British and Portuguese members of the community in need.
The event was sponsored by Blacktower Financial Management, Garland Logistics, The Fladgate Group and Jaguar Land Rover.
Member organisations are always seeking members to support the groups and the wider community, anyone interested can find out more at www.bcclisbon.org.
