The beautiful rooftops of Lisbon and the outline of Castelo São Jorge were available for all to see as RBC Members came together for lunch at the rooftop restaurant of Hotel Mundial in the centre of the city.
A good turn out of Members and guests joined each other to exchange life stories and professional experiences. The Chairman, Philip Portal, introduced an interesting, new concept to the meeting by inviting anyone to stand up and introduce themselves, their business or their activity to the assembled company. However, he did impose a strict one minute time limit on the speakers in order to keep the flow of information at a premium level. It was interesting to note the variety of professions that were in attendance, from lawyers and real estate agents to investment managers and dentists and one speaker concluded that he had reached the stage of his life when he was only here to enjoy himself. The love of the country was clearly exposed by the number of Members who have lived in Portugal for over 30 years, and who could not consider living anywhere else.
On conclusion of the individual introductions John Duggan, retired Tax partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers, provided information about tax incentives for foreigners to come and live in Portugal. Interesting though the information was, it was mainly applicable to non residents, but it was useful information that could be given wider exposure should the opportunity arise. Lunch buzzed with stories and anecdotes of all varieties and the lunch broke up with Members and guests exchanging business cards and email addresses.

We look forward to the next event in Cascais when David Wright of Angloinfo will make a presentation about the web site at lunch on 23rd May.
