The Salvation Army (Exercito de Salvacao) wants to convert part of the land around its facility in Colares into a 5-a-side soccer pitch for local youngsters as there is no such facility nearby. This sounds to me like a worthy cause! The quotation for the work for the project is around €11,500.
The Salvation Army has organised the following events to raise funds for this project – all at the Salvation Army facility on the main road (N247) in Colares (about 400m on the Sintra side of the junction for Praia das Macas). Parking nearby is possibly a little better than parking in Penedo! At least the roads are wider and flatter. I hope to find out more information during this week about parking and similar details, and will let you know if you express interest in attending any of these events.
Sunday 26 May, from 09.30: the Andover Town Band will start playing, to combine with the 10.00 service in the Salvation Army Citadela; admission free, collection during the service will be used for the project.
Sunday 26 May, 16.00 (4 p.m.): the Andover Town Band will play in the gardens of the Salvation Army facility, admission free, donations encouraged, refreshments will be provided afterwards.
Friday and Saturday, 7 and 8 June: the Salvation Army Spring Bazaar.
Around these events, we are hoping that ARdeCoro will be able to perform again, either at the SA Citadela or at the Penedo Tuna, but that is not yet confirmed. There would be a ‘modest’ admission fee, additional donations encouraged, all for the benefit of this project. ‘Drinks and nuts’ will be provided.
Depending on how our plans develop, we hope to provide an auction and raffle (leilao and ‘tombola’?), perhaps after the Andover Town Band on Sunday afternoon, 26 May while refreshments are being served. (I will be discussing with the Penedo Tuna whether we can organise any additional event to support this project, and will let you know if we think of something appealing. The auction and raffle might be timed to coincide with an event at the Penedo Tuna.)
I hope that you will be able to attend one of the Salvation Army’s events and support their project.
Meanwhile, if you have items to donate for sale at their Spring Bazaar, please drop them off at the Salvation Army facility in Colares (main entrance on the N247, then walk around to the back of the building).
If you have items which would be suitable for an auction or raffle, PLEASE let me know! (If for an auction, you are welcome to set a minimum price or whatever, or specify if unsold items can be put into the Spring Bazaar. I am willing to deliver back to you any unsold items if that is what you prefer.)
Many thanks in anticipation of your support for this project, and best wishes.
