In glorious June sunshine, 16 random sports teams made up of friends, teachers, workmates or relatives, both male and female, mature and young, enthusiastically took part in playing the wide variety of team events presented by the British Community Council at its Annual Multi Sports day.
Each team competed for 20 minutes with great sportsmanship at each of the 7 games in the competition. These ranged from football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, touch rugby to the extremely testing Scottish Country dancing! There were activities for non-team players who could try their hand at badminton and boules, test their cricket bowling skill and for those less active, play dominoes in the cooler club house. The winning team ATF (All Time Favorites) was presented with a trophy cup with the prestigious best sportsmanship team going to Garland.
All of the event was created and enabled by volunteers and the good will of the community. Thanks go to our hosts, St Julian’s School in Carcavelos, to IPS school who provided the hearty BBQ, and the WRVS who provided their usual exceptional mouth-watering cakes. Many other BCC organisations contributed in other ways and also provided raffle prizes. All the proceeds from the day (totalling €4000 which included a further donations from BCC to round it up) were presented equally between this year’s nominated charities, CERCOEIRAS in Bacarena and C.E.C.D. Mira Sintra.
